Tampereen Tappara ja Oulun Kärpät ratkaisivat perjantaina puolivälieräpaikat itselleen jääkiekon SM-liigassa. Tappara kukisti kolmannessa ensimmäisen kierroksen pudotuspelissä Helsingin Jokerit 4-2 ja Kärpät espoolaisen Bluesin 2-1.
Tappara kohtaa ensi maanantaina alkavissa puolivälierissä runkosarjan kakkosen KalPan ja Kärpät runkosarjan voittaneen viime vuoden Suomen mestarin JYPin. JYP ja Kärpät kohtasivat viime keväänä SM-finaalisarjassa.
Tapparan tehomieheksi Jokereita vastaan nousi yllättäen puolustaja Juha Leimu, joka heti paluuottelussaan mässäili 2+1 pisteellä. Leimu viimeisteli joukkueensa 1-0- ja 2-0-osumat, jälkimmäisen ylivoimalla.
Myös SM-liigan runkosarjan parhaaksi pelaajaksi valittu Jori Lehterä oli Tapparalle tärkeä pelaaja tehtyään 0+2 pistettä.
Ottelun käännekohta nähtiin toisen erän alussa, kun Jokerien Jani Rita murjoi Tapparan Jussi Halmetta polvitaklauksella. Seuraus oli se, että Rita joutui ulos kaukalosta saatuaan 5+20 minuutin rangaistuksen, ja tappiolla 0-1 olleen Jokerien rivit alkoivat rakoilla.
Espoossa Blues joutui takaa-ajajaksi, kun 19-vuotias keltanokka Joonas Komulainen ja 39-vuotias konkarihyökkääjä Vesa Viitakoski veivät avauserässä Kärpät 2-0-johtoon. Stefan Öhman kavensi toisessa erässä 1-2:een, mutta Blues ei päässyt päätöserässä sen lähemmäksi.
Maanantain puolivälierien kaksi muuta otteluparia ovat Lukko (3:s runkosarjassa)-TPS (6:s) ja HIFK (4:s)-HPK (5:s).

Danish hockey turns the corner
The Danish Super Best League
The Danish Super Best League currently has nine teams, playing a regular season of 36 games plus playoffs. Eight teams make it to the playoffs, similar to the NHL in the 70s when missing the playoffs was a major embarrassment.The economics of Danish hockey is shaky at best. Every season at least one club is on the brink of bankruptcy. Salaries to foreign players that are too high is the main reason, but bad management and missed marketing opportunities are also a major concern.
Hockey is a popular winter sport in Denmark and the top clubs have a nice following. The hard core fan base is only outdone by fans of the soccer clubs. Soccer is of course the main sport in Denmark.
Hockey hotbeds are Herning and Esbjerg with Odense catching up, and in Kopenhagen the two clubs Nordsjälland (formely known as Rungsted) and Rödovre.
Overall the quality of the Danish League doesn’t come close to any of the big Euro leagues. Still, there are good players skating around in the Super Best League and it is a good league to start out in.
The Danish national team
The locomotive of Danish hockey is the national team. Under the excellent guidance of Swedish coach Jim Brithén, Denmark made significant strides. The team was incredible close to securing a berth in the 2002 Olympics, but lack of experience proved costly.Under new coach Mikael Lundström, Denmark finally went from low status to the A group. The A-World Championships 2003 was the first ever for Danish hockey and the team immediately broke onto the world scene with a stunning 5-2 triumph against Team USA. They also managed to get a 2-2 draw against eventual world champs Canada. Danish hockey suddenly rose in reputation both home and abroad.
2004 was not as good of a tournament for the Danes. The Danish team was crushed by Sweden, Russia, USA, Finland and Slovakia but eventually secured their stay in the A group. It was a bit disappointing but nevertheless one should not forget that the main goal is to stabilize the current position and catch up with countries like Austria, Switzerland and Latvia.
The national team is dominated by players who play in Sweden and an increasing amount of young prospects go to Sweden each year. More established players like Kim Staal, Jens Nielsen, Peter Hirsch and Jesper Duus have been instrumental in Denmark’s rise to status as an A-nation and they have all performed very well in Sweden.
The growth in Danish hockey
Danish youth hockey has been a priority for the Danish Ice Hockey Federation and this is beginning to pay off. The junior teams are performing really well. The 2003 U18 WC saw a Danish team challenging hockey greats like Canada and Sweden and outplaying teams from Norway and Belarus. A final ranking at No. 8 was an excellent result, as only the seven “greats” of hockey were ahead.The clubs are doing a fine job of recruiting young players and with a focus on teaching them the basics, Denmark will eventually produce NHL players. Unfortunately the Danish clubs neither have the money nor the level of play to hold on to their young prospects for very long. They have to move to countries like neighbor Sweden to continue their growth and get the necessary experience to really shine. Until the players are 17 or 18, they match up pretty well with players their age from traditional hockey countries. The next step, however, is taken in the Swedish or North American leagues.
The Future
The next goal in Danish Hockey is to see the first Danish born player get a contract with an NHL team and of course actually play in the NHL. That would be an enormous achievement and finally give Danish hockey development the “approved” stamp.For years Kim Staal was regarded as the likely candidate, but despite solid performances in Swedish clubs like Modo and Malmö, he never got the call from Montreal. Staal was slowed by injuries in the season 2002-03 and now it seems like his chances with a deep Canadiens organization have all but disappeared. It’s unfortunate for a player who possesses the energy level and enough talent to perform as a third or fourth line forward.
Next in line is recently drafted Frans Nielsen, who was selected at No. 87 in 2002 by the Islanders. American scouts wants Nielsen to gain more muscle, but they of course witnessed his strong play at the World Championships 2004, where he was very solid and impressed with superior faceoff skills. One or two more seasons with Malmö should prepare him, and Nielsen could get his chance on Long Island. If he falters, players drafted this year are the next candidates. It is difficult however to see either Peter Regin or Jannik Hansen in the NHL in the foreseeable future. Regin is the obvious candidate with his high offensive potential but Hansen has also impressed with his great speed.
Two players eligible for the 2005 draft also seems promising namely Slava Truhno and Morten Madsen. Both are considered can’t miss prospects. Truhno is currently playing with the PEI Rockets in the QMJHL. Madsen is in Sweden with the junior team of Frölunda and has already gained high interest following his great performance at the 2003 U18-WC. With Truhno playing in North America he could take a short cut to the NHL.

Ilkka Heikkinen (s. 13. marraskuuta 1984Rauma) on suomalainen jääkiekkoilija, joka teki kaudeksi 2009–2010 sopimuksen NHL-seura New York Rangersin kanssa. Heikkinen on pelipaikaltaan puolustaja.

Seurajoukkueura
Lukon kasvatti Heikkinen pelasi ensi kertaa SM-liigassa kaudella 2003-04. 20 liigaottelua tehoin 0+1 pelannut raumalainen pääsi pelaamaan ykköspuolustajaparissa Lukko-legenda Erik Hämäläisen kanssa. Edellisellä kaudella hän oli pelannut ensimmäiset miesten ottelunsa Mestiksen UJK:ssa, jossa oli ollut lainasopimuksella kauden 2002–2003 loppuun.[1] Kauden 2003–2004 aikana Heikkisen tie vei ensin takaisin juniorijoukkueeseen, kunnes hän sai loppukaudeksi siirron Mestiksen TuToon.[2]
Kauden 2004–2005 alussa Heikkinen ei mahtunut Lukon kokoonpanoon, joten hänet lähetettiin jälleen vuokralle Mestikseen. Hän pelasi KooKoossa neljä ottelua, kunnes Lukko kutsui hänet takaisin Jaakko Harikkalan loukkaannuttua.[3] Heikkinen sai loppukaudesta vastuuta Lukossa 48:n ottelun ajan ja pelasi myös playoffeissa. Kaudet 2005–2006 ja 2006–2007 sujuivat Lukossa hyvin ja kaudeksi 2007–2008 Heikkinen siirtyi HIFK:hon.
Ensimmäisellä HIFK-kaudellaan Heikkinen teki heti henkilökohtaisen piste-ennätyksensä: 37 pistettä. Seuraavallakin kaudella Heikkinen teki 34 pistettä, minkä ansiosta kaudella 2008–2009 hän oli SM-liigan kolmanneksi eniten pisteitä tehnyt puolustaja. Toukokuussa 2009 NHL-seura New York Rangers ilmoitti, että joukkue on tehnyt sopimuksen Heikkisen kanssa.[4] Syyskuun puolivälissä Rangers lähetti hänet farmijoukkueeseensa Hartford Wolf Packiin.[5]
Maajoukkueura
Heikkinen pääsi edustamaan Suomea miesten tasolla ensimmäisen kerran kaudella 2007–2008. Hän pelasi ensin Channel One Cupissa, Moskovassa, ja myöhemmin LG Hockey Gamesin kahdessa ottelussa, kun hänet valittiin korvaamaan loukkaantunutta Pekka Saravoa.[6]

Former Devils defenseman Kevin Dean celebrates a goal on April 26, 1997.Of all the players the Devils have drafted since 1982, only Ricard Persson took longer to play his first NHL game for New Jersey than Ilkka Pikkarainen.Pikkarainen made his NHL debut Monday night against the Rangers, seven years after he was drafted by the Devils. A list provided by the Elias Sports Bureau shows that Persson took eight years to debut with the Devils after being drafted in 1987.
Along with Pikkarainen, defensemen Kevin Dean and Brad Bombardir also took seven years to make it to the NHL.

The Devils held their morning skate at the St. Pete Times Forum Thursday morning and everyone took part, including rookie defenseman Mark Fraser.
Fraser remains on injured reserve.
One line was Matt Halishuck-Rod Pelley-Pikkarainen. Halischuck will play upfront as the Devils scratch both enforcers, Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond and Andrew Peters, in trying to match up with the speedier Lightning.
As expected, coach Steve Stevens is not traveling with the Devils.
The Devils will get to see Victor Hedman, Tampa Bay's first pick in June's entry draft and the second pick overall behind John Tavares.
They will also face former Devils defenseman David Hale, who was traded from Phoenix to the Lightning.
"We're really deep. We have eight 'D' right now and everybody can play," Hale said Thursday morning. "This is going to be fun to be part of."
Hale said it was a shame Wayne Gretzky decided to step down in Phoenix amidst all the uncertainty.
"I know he really enjoyed it," Hale said. "It's unfortunate for the city, for the game. I know he'll be able to find a spot doing whatever he wants to do in the future."
The Devils will use Andy Greene on defense instead of Cory Murphy, who was scratched and was hoping to face his former club.

Neither the Devils nor the Lightning have won a game yet. Tampa Bay is 0-1-1 and the Devils 0-2.

TEAM SWITZERLAND IN VANCOUVER

Sveitsin jääkiekkomaajoukkueessa nähdään kaksi kovaa maalivahtia Vancouverin olympiaturnauksessa. Päävalmentaja Ralph Krueger nimesi odotetusti NHL:ssä Anaheim Ducksia edustavan Jonas Hillerin ja nykyään KHL:n Atlantissa pelaavan Martin Gerberin veräjänvartijoiksi.
Sveitsin puolustusta johtaa New York Islandersin Mark Streit, joka pelasi tänä vuonna NHL:n tähdistöottelussa. Joukkueessa on mukana myös kaksi pelaajaa, jotka mittelevät parhaillaan nuorten MM-kisoissa: puolustajat Luca Sbisa ja Roman Josi.
Sveitsi on voittanut olympiapronssia jääkiekossa kotikisoissaan St. Moritzissa 1928 ja 1948. Urheilullisesti kovin saavutus lienee kuitenkin Torinon 2006 kuutostila. Sveitsi voitti tuolloin sensaatiomaisesti Kanadan ja Tshekin NHL-tähdet. Kanadaa vastaan Gerber torjui nollapelin.
Sveitsi pelaa Vancouverissa samassa lohkossa Kanadan, USA:n ja Norjan kanssa.

TEAM SWEDEN"TRE KRONOR"IN VANCOUVER
Ruotsi
Ruotsin jääkiekkomaajoukkueen päävalmentaja Bengt-Åke Gustafsson valitsi paljon kritiikkiäkin herättäneen joukkueen Vancouverin olympiaturnaukseen. Ruotsin joukkueen suurin tähti on kaksinkertainen olympiavoittaja Peter “Foppa” Forsberg, joka nykyisin pelaa MoDossa. Ruotsi on voittanut olympiakultaa Lillehammerissa 1994 ja Torinossa 2006.
Ruotsin selkeä ykkösmaalivahti on New York Rangersin Henrik Lundqvist. Puolustuksen nimimiehiä ovat Nicklas Lidström ja Mattias Öhlund. Yllättävää oli kovaotteisen Douglas Murrayn mahtuminen joukkueeseen.
Hyökkäyksessä Ruotsilla on heittää laatikkoon mm. Henrik Zetterberg, Daniel ja Henrik Sedin, Nicklas Bäckström ja Daniel Alfredsson. Mukana on myös Detroitin kokenut Tomas Holmström. Yllättäen joukkueesta jäi rannalle Mikael Samuelsson, joka protestoi hyllyttämistään jyrkin sanakääntein.
Ruotsi pelaa Vancouverissa samassa alkulohkossa Suomen, Valko-Venäjän ja Saksan kanssa. Suomi hävisi Torinon finaalissa Ruotsille 2-3, joten sunnuntaina 21. helmikuuta Leijonat pääsee hakemaan Tre Kronorista revanssia olympiakiekossa.
Ruotsi on voittanut jääkiekossa kahden olympiakullan lisäksi kaksi hopeaa ja neljä pronssia. NHL-tähtien tultua mukaan olympiakiekkoon Ruotsi hävisi Naganon 1998 puolivälieräottelussa Suomelle 1-2 ja Salt Lake Cityn 2002 puolivälierässä sensaatiomaisesti Valko-Venäjälle 3-4. Torinossa 2006 Tre Kronorille tuli kuitenkin täyspotti.
