Kimi Raikkonen to make rally driving debut in Finland
Formula 1 (F1) star Kimi Raikkonen will make his World Rally Championship (WRC) debut at the Neste Oil Finland rally.
Fans of rally driving will be interested to hear that the Ferrari driver will compete in an Abarth Grande Punto, the same car which he has used in his earlier rally outings.
Raikkonen has taken part in other events but never in a WRC challenge and sitting by his side during the whole race will be Kaj Lindstrom.
More than 90 crews have entered the competition, which is the highest number this year.
Simon Long, boss at WRC promoters ISC, said having someone of Raikkonen's stature is great news for fans of rally driving.
"I've said before that the WRC is built on heroes and iconic figures - and they don't come any bigger than Kimi Raikkonen," he stated.
Driving fans will be aware that Kimi Raikkonen enjoyed his most successful season as a driver in 2007 when he won the F1 title and helped Ferrari claim the constructor's championship.
