Koivuranta wins Nordic combined World Cup, Demong last race

Anssi KoivurantaVikersund, Norway - Anssi Koivuranta of Finland clinched the Nordic combined skiing World Cup title on Sunday with an eighth-place finish in the season-finale won by American world champion Bill Demong.

Koivuranta, 20, only required 29th place to clinch the title in the case that Norwegian rival Magnus Moan won, and all speculation ended when the Finn placed fourth in the morning ski-jumping portion.

Demong got his fifth season win by clocking 26 minutes 31.6 in the 10-kilometres cross-country pursuit, ahead of Norwegians Petter Tande (9.8 seconds behind) and Mikko Kokslien (10.3).

Koivuranta dominated the ski-jumping round and then cruised to his seventh season victory in 26 minutes 3.9 seconds for the 10- kilometres cross-country pursuit.

World champion Bill Demong of the United States came second 6.5 points behind the winner and Norway's Magnus Moan was third, 13.2 seconds off the pace.

His main title rival Magnus Moan of Norway failed to make up a deficit of 1.44 minutes from the jumping, trailing by 15.4 seconds at the finish line. Third place went to compatriot Jan Schmid, 1:04.1 minutes off the pace.

Moan beats Koivuranta for fifth Nordic combined win of season

Anssi KoivurantaFrance - Magnus Moan of Norway made up a huge deficit on Finland's World Cup leader Anssi Koivuranta to claim his fifth season victory in Nordic combined skiing on Saturday.

Trailing Koivuranta by almost two minutes after the morning ski-jumping portion, Moan passed his rival in the closing stages of the
10-kilometre cross-country pursuit to win in 26 minutes 6.8 seconds.

Moan has now won three of the last four races, five in the season and a dozen overall.

Koivuranta trailed by 9.2 seconds and German Bjoern Kircheisen placed third with a deficit of 32.9 seconds.

Koivuranta wins combined to increase World Cup lead Trondheim, Norway - World Cup leader Anssi Koivuranta of Finland was in command to win the Nordic combined over 10 kilometres in Trondhein, Norway on Sunday.

Koivuranta enjoyed a 25.9-second advantage over second-placed Bjoern Kircheisen of Germany, with France's Jason Lamy Chappuis third, 34.6 seconds behind the Finn.

It was the second win of the season for Koivuranta, who led after the jump and finished in 24 minutes 41.9 seconds (138.0 points/24:41.9)
